'Lovin' You' by Minnie Ripperton

When I was a little girl in the '70s, I had a transistor radio -- which only got AM stations -- next to my bed.  Every night, I would fall asleep listening to the soothing songs of soft rock.

One night in particular, I remember being wrapped up in my covers like a cozy cocoon, half in a dream state, when Minnie Ripperton's "Lovin' You" came on the radio.  In my memory, the words to that song were so soothing and the high octaves that she hit were like honey to my ears -- even at 5 years old.  The memory of soft white mist and lots of lattice were prominent in my mind.  Well, it was 1975 and I had a vivid imagination.

As I got older, "Lovin' You" was always my favorite song.  As a teenager, I made a declaration that on my wedding day, this would be the song that I danced  to with my new husband.  Well, my dream did come true and I want to share my favorite song with you.

Lovin' You

Lovin' you is easy cause you're beautiful
Makin' love with you is all I wanna do
Lovin' you is more than just a dream come true
And everything that I do is out of lovin' you

La la la la la...
Doot-n-doot-n do doo
Ah...

No one else can make me feel
The colors that you bring
Stay with me while we grow old
And we will live each day in the springtime
Cause lovin' you has made my life so beautiful
And every day my life is filled with lovin' you

Lovin' you I see your soul come shinin' through
And every time that we oooooh
I'm more in love with you
La la la la la...
Doot-n-doot-n do doo
Ah...

No one else can make me feel
The colors that you bring
Stay with me while we grow old
And we will live each day in springtime
Cause lovin' you is easy cuz your beautiful
And every day my life is filled with lovin' you

Lovin' you I see your soul come shinin' through
And every time that we oooooh
I'm more in love with you
La la la la la...
Doot-n-doot-n do doo
Ah...

Maya Maya Maya Maya... do do do do do

[Side note: Minnie Ripperton -- who succumbed to breast cancer in 1979 at the age of 31 -- was comedian/actress Maya Rudolph's Mom.  I love that, at the end of the song as it is fading out, she sings Maya's name -- so sweet.]
